Life skills programme launched for unemployed

2019-01-16 06:02

STARTING the new year on a positive note, the People Upliftment Programme (POPUP) Nelson Mandela Bay will be uplifting the unemployed youth once more with their next life skills programme that is set to start next week.

POPUP, a registered non-profit organisation that opened its doors in 2017, provides services to Nelson Mandela Bay residents who are between the ages of 18 and 45, unemployed and with no access to tertiary education. Situated at Piet Retief Primary School in Sidwell, the NPO operates as a fully-fledged skills training and development centre.

“Our vision is to transform lives and uplift individuals to impact their world.

“We firmly believe that transformation takes place from a holistic point of view,” said Louise van Heerden, general manager and visionary leader of POPUP NMB.

The life skills training programme will run for six weeks, starting on Monday, January 21.

Participants will learn about the “Foundations for Life” for the first three weeks, followed by “Crafting My Future”, “ABSA Ready to Work” and “Giving Back to Community” topics, each for a week.

By the time they graduate, they will have learned to manage their finances, apply stress management and problem solving, deal with their personal identity and much more.

Classes take place at Piet Retief Primary School in Sutton Road, Sidwell from Monday to Thursday between 08:30 and 15:00.
