MOTHERWELL-BASED Lion City managed to overcome the gutsy Highland Spurs 2-1 during their SAFA Nelson Mandela Bay SAB Regional League clash, which took place at Motherwell NU 2 Stadium on Saturday.

City drew blood first after Sinethemba Matsha scored from the penalty spot in the 36th minute.

The KwaNobuhle lads played good football in the heart of the field, but their midfielders failed to spread passes to their wings.

The home side claimed a world class goal that was scored by their skilful midfielder, Ubenathi Nodada, in the 56th minute, giving City a 2-0 advantage.

Spurs’ striker Ntakanipho Maseti decreased his side’s deficit to 2-1 after he scored a goal from the penalty spot in the 67th minute.

The visitors could have played to a 2-2 draw but City’s goalkeeper, Sinethemba Moyeni, saved a close range shot that was unleashed by Abongile Matomela in a one-on-one situation in the 85th minute, securing the win for his team.
