Liquor licence renewal deadline extended

2018-01-31 06:02

LIQUOR traders who failed to meet the deadline for the renewal of liquor licences on December 31 last year, have been granted an extension this month.

This is according to a recent statement by the Eastern Cape Liquor Board (ECLB), which further declared that the extension is accompanied by a penalty charge of 50%.

This extension expires today.

Liquor traders who miss the January 31 cut-off date as well are still given a grace period to renew before the end of February.

However, a late renewal penalty of 100% will be charged.

“Liquor traders are, therefore, urged to observe this grace period and ensure that they chase the deadlines as stipulated in and enjoined by the Eastern Cape Liquor Act 10 of 2003,” the ECLB said.

“ECLB wishes to commend those liquor traders that have so far taken it upon themselves to ensure that they comply with the conditions of their liquor licences and promptly renewed their liquor licences.

“The implication those liquor traders who fail to renew their licences by February 28, is that their liquor outlets will be deregistered and should they wish to trade again, they will be expected to immediately stop trading and reapply for a new liquor licence.

“Their licenses will virtually become invalid and if they continue to trade with such licences they will be contravening the law and necessary steps will be taken.”

To avoid deregistration of their liquor licenses, liquor traders must ensure that they renew their licences to remain valid for the next financial year.
