ONE of the few open green spaces still left in the city will now be able to stay intact, owing to a generous contribution by a local construction company.

Kayalihle Trading and Construction, which specialises in road and civil works, recently completed a project on Verdun Road in Lorraine.

“After the completion of the project, I wanted to give back to the community,” said Kayalihle Trading and Construction owner Terrence Nyathi. “I liaised with the ward councillor of this area to identify an area in which the company could assist the community.”

Ward 8 Councillor Gustav Rautenbach feels very strongly about preserving open spaces and parks, which is why he suggested the open space opposite the Kamma Crossing Shopping Centre in Lorraine, where delivery trucks often park.

The new fence will now assist with keeping the delivery trucks and other vehicles off the open space. According to Rautenbach, the municipality will add a boom gate to the fence.

Nyathi donated the fencing inclusive of the labour, all amounting to a total of R30 000.

“The community and I are very grateful towards Kayalihle Trading and Construction for this partnership and generous donation and I hope that many other private companies will follow the example of this kind gesture,” said Rautenbach
