DRIVEN by the desire to catch up with international trends, Simon Clark Hairdressing in Westbourne Road, Port Elizabeth, is currently the first in the country that allows clients to book their hair appointments online.

Before opening the salon, Clark, who has been in hairdressing for 13 years, worked at a marketing company in Port Elizabeth and is also known for organising the Cancer Shavathon, one of South Africa’s best-loved events in support of showing solidarity with those affected by cancer.

“I always try to stay on top of what’s happening internationally. I have been keeping an eye on international trends and saw that there is a definite shift to doing things online and from there on it was quite easy,” he said.

“It’s a fully integrated system, where there’s no need for clients to phone in, they just log onto our Facebook page, click on the book now option, then book their appointment. So I said to myself if they can do this in America, surely we can do it in South Africa as well.”

After approaching his South African software provider and reading online reviews, Clarke decided to get with the program on an international level.

“It all started with research into what was available. First I approached the South African software provider that we deal with but they could not help, so I started looking at what was available elsewhere.

“This led to a shortlist of three international programs and after reading all the online reviews, we chose the package that we currently use, known as Shedul,” he explained.

Liesl van Rooyen, a client, said she finds the new online system extremely easy, user friendly and quick. “I have been doing my hair at Simon Clark Hairdressing since 2004 and since the new booking system was available, it made everything so much more simple and easy,” van Rooyen said.
