THE girls of the McWilliams Academy of Dance studio in Port Elizabeth showed that they are a force to be reckoned with at the recent South African Irish Dancing Championships and All Scotland’s Irish Dance Championships.

Five of the academy’s participants won their age category at the SA Irish Dancing Championships that took place in Johannesburg last month.

They are Shanna du Plessis (u/10 SA champion), Courtney Pearce (senior ladies’ SA champion), Channaed Oosthuizen (u/13 SA champion), Jenna Hayes (u/16 SA champion) and Jemima Opperman (u/12 SA champion).

It was also at this competition that two of the dancers, namely Pearce and Hayes, qualified to attend the prestigious Irish Dance World Championships to be held in Glasgow, Scotland, in March next year.

Pearce, in particular is an established and talented performer which she proved yet again when she was placed 12th in the senior ladies category of the All Scotland’s Irish Dance Championship in Glasgow recently.
