THE People Upliftment Programme in Nelson Mandela Bay opened its doors in 2017 and has since been striving to inspire as many people to change their destinies as they can.

POPUP, as it is affectionately known, is equipping people with skills to become employable and contribute to a better South Africa.

The NPO was started with the vision to uplift and bring restoration.

They provide services to people between the ages of 18 and 45 who are living in Port Elizabeth and surrounding areas, regardless of race, culture, gender or religion. Potential learners must also be unemployed, with no access to tertiary education and be able to read, write and speak English.

Learners start with a compulsory six-week life skills programme, the aim of which is to bring wholeness and restoration to individuals and to assist in practical needs.

After completion, POPUP offers people an opportunity for a learnership such as IT end user computing or choosing a specific skill to upskill them and giving them the opportunity to move into a workplace.

POPUP’s accredited skills include end user computer, sewing and barista training. Their next life skills classes start on July 1 at 08:30.

For registration, learners must bring R120 (includes all stationery, books and a meal each day), a copy of their ID and a copy of their highest grade passed results/qualification.

Learners can register between Monday and Thursday from 08:30 to 15:00 at Piet Retief Primary School on the corner of Sutton and Dalton Road in Sidwell.

For more info contact them at 064 620 8537 (Whatsapp and SMS), nmb@popup.co.za, or visit the POPUP Nelson Mandela Bay Facebook page.
