MOTHERWELL NU 7 Seven Sundowns Sports Club take pride in the four u/13 soccer players who will take part in the last stage of trials, run by SAFA Nelson Mandela Bay, on January 14.

Trials took place at Zwide Stadium in December. The four players who were selected were Asiphahle Scott (right wing), Likhaya Matshaya (left wing), Lucwayito James (central defender) and Likhona Mrwebi (goalkeeper).

Mrwebi was also selected for the SAFA NMB Schools’ Soccer Team that took part in the provincial games in East London in June 2019.

Sundowns head of football development, Thamsanqa Kwane, stated that his club was very proud of the four players.

“These four boys are our pride. They worked very hard and we do not want to put pressure on these players. Bright future lies ahead of these boys. Those players who did not make it, it is not the end of the world.”

Kwane also said that one of their juniors, Indiphile Fana, was selected by Pro Skills Soccer to play in the Dana Youth Tournament that took place in Copenhagen in Denmark in July 2018.

Sundowns head coach, Mthunzi Zane Mrwebi, also commended the players for making it through to the last round of trials.

“First and foremost, I would like to thank these players for putting our club on the map. These boys are very serious and they are hard workers. I would like to thank also other players who took part during the trials.

“Those who were not selected, must not give up. The right time will come for them. I give a special thanks to the parents who allowed us to take their children to the trials during the very hot weather conditions. I want to attribute our players’ progress to our sponsors Blue Ribbon.

“They support us through thick and thin.”
