MOTHERWELL RFC embarrassed the Alicedale Rose Buds 57-15 in their EP Grand Challenge Shield League match at Motherwell NU 1 Stadium on Saturday.

Mamie, as Motherwell RFC are affectionately known to their loyal supporters, started the game like a house on fire as they did not give the visitors any chance to breathe.

Mamie front ranker, Lelethu “Beast” Nameka, scored the opening try which made the score line 5-0. The hosts increased their lead to 10-0, following a beautiful try which was scored by their right wing, Sithembele Yako.

Mamie continued to search for their third try, which came courtesy of the loose forward, Mzukisi Tembani, but Yako failed to convert the try with the home side leading 15-0.

Mamie continued to put pressure on the Alicedale side, with Masi “Bukhosi” Pienaar scoring a try, which was converted by Kirsten Dingaan, to give the home side a 22-0 lead. The visiting team flanker, Erwin Jacobs, scored his side’s opening try that fly half Elgin Buys failed to convert with Mamie leading 22-5.

The joy of Buds’ supporters was cut short after skipper Abulele Mbande scored his try under the poles and Dingaan’s conversion increased Mamie’s lead to 29-5 on the stroke of first half.

Buds were kept on their back foot even in the early stages of the second half. Pienaar converted Dingaan’s try to increase the lead to 36-5. Buds replied with the unconverted try that was scored by Wenton Cedars. Then the score was 36-10.

Mbande scored another try, which Dingaan successfully converted, stretching Mamie’s lead to 43-10.

Sanele Dyesi scored his first try in the corner. The scoreboard read 50-10 after Dingaan converted Dyesi’s try.

Left wing Cingile Booi scored Buds’ last try which decreased their deficit to 50-15.

The man of the match, Nameka, scored his last try which gave Motherwell RFC a 57-15 victory following a conversion by Dingaan.
