McGrath wins winter triathlon

YOUNG 21-year-old Port Elizabeth Triathlete, Travis McGrath, was the winner of the hotly contested Endurade Winter Series Triathlon on Sunday morning in a fast time of 54 minutes and 31 seconds.

With a record turnout for the Winter Series, McGrath was followed home by Keegan Cooke and Nathan Le Roux with Antonella Saporta winning the ladies’ triathlon category from Sally Waterworth and Kirsten Pheiffer.

Sunday’s Duathlon events saw Ross Helliwell continue his domination of the sprint distance, winning in 53:52 from Adrian Clarke and Warren Pavis.

Lana Bruyns won the ladies’ division from Tronel Rabe and Deidre Burger.

The Mini Duathlon was won by Dewald Klingenburg with Marcelle Meyer and Andrew Bosch taking second and third respectively.

Yolandi Klingenburg won the ladies mini duathlon division.

In the Kids’ Duathlon it was Francois de Villiers from Luc de Villiers and Jaren Loenen with Britney Brown winning the girls division from Justine de Villiers.

The Series also include a 750m Ocean Swim which was won by Vilem Horak from Jarryd Cooke and Jared Jordan.

Cameron Ackermann won the ladies’ swim from Mary-Anne Stott and Jill McLellan.

Young Jayson Archibald (9), who is hard in training for his Lazer Run international early next month, won the 5km Beach Run from Tristan Marais and Ryder Swans.

Dawn Denysschen won the ladies 5km Beach Run from Tracy Maclear and Liezel Wait.

In the kids’ 1.25km beach run, it was 6-year-old Bryce Loenen from Joshua Marais and Jason Denysschen whilst 5-year-old Kaitlyn Richter took the girls’ run from Skyla Davies and Kayliegh Marais.

The final round of the Endurade Winter Series will be taking place on Sunday 4th September and is open to all newcomers.
