MILAN Stars FC honoured its outstanding players at its annual awards function at President Nyanisile Mpehle Rala’s place in Motherwell NU 2 on Saturday.

The players, their parents, former players and club officials attended the function.

Guest speaker, David Ngxishe, said that today there were lots of opportunities in sport. Ngxishe said that the players should be disciplined so that they could make their dreams become a reality.

“Players must work very hard because the doors are open for them to play professional football. The most important thing is that the players must not commit crimes and abuse alcohol. The football scouts recruit the most disciplined players who are enemies of crime,” he said.

“During our time we managed to produce competent football administrators, like Thabo Daniels, Samson Mahote, Selby Madikane, Peter Sample, Major Pikoli, Isaac Klaas, Valentine Brink, Errol Heynes, Mogan Segadavan, Phakamile Daca and many more.

“These gentlemen had a passion to see football in our areas reaching greater heights despite the difficult times. I urge you players to spend all your time in sport and in other constructive things.”

Songezo Ndamase was voted Player of the Season, while Kwakhanya Mtongana scooped the Most Improved Player award. The Most Disciplined Player award went to Lamla Sojola, with Manelisi Tube winning the Most Dedicated award.

The outstanding players that were honoured received medals for their excellent performances and conduct.

Milan Stars president, Nyanisile Mpehle Rala, stated that the aim behind holding the function was to motivate the players.

“We want to motivate our players so that they deliver for the team.

“Our team’s youngsters are improving game after game. I can see that they have a bright future,” said Rala.

Milan Stars’ team manager, Andile Magqudu, said that their club did not have enough financial means.

“We could have held a bigger event than this. We have to dig deep into our pockets to run this club without any sponsorship.

“We want to keep these boys off the streets.

“Next year we look forward to holding a glittering function.”
