AS 2018 marks the centenary celebration of two iconic individuals in the history of South Africa, Nirvana Performing Arts Circle, in collaboration with the Indian Consulate, Durban, will be hosting an evening of music at the KGM Hall in Malabar on April 21.

This year marks the 100th birthday of Nelson Mandela, as well as of the Satyagraha movement of Mahatma Gandhi.

The music evening, celebrating these two iconic world leaders, will feature Poorvi Bhana on sitar, a string instrument that is popular in India, and Saradindu Adhikary on tabla, a percussion instrument.

Bhana has been hailed as one of the most serious young exponents of sitar in South Africa.

Years of training have exposed her to and enriched her music with the artistic aspects and nuances of diverse gharana styles.

Her distinctive style is strongly rooted in classical music traditions, which appeals to the orthodox, as well as progressive music lovers.

Adhikary was born into a musical family and received his first music lessons from his father. He has been exposed to and influenced by many different types of music and has performed in Greece, Italy, France, Belgium, Switzerland, Germany, Singapore, the Middle East, China, Hong Kong and South Africa.

Adhikary is also the founder of NINAAD, a school of music that recently opened in South Africa to promote Indian classical music and art.

The two performers will be seen live at the KGM Hall in Malabar on April 21 at 19:00.

Tickets to the show are R100 per person. For more info contact Mahesh Narotam on 082 556 9847.
