MANESH Maharaj, accompanied by Revash Dookhi on tabla and Moganathan Chetty on mridangam, will be bringing the art of the Tridhara to life in Port Elizabeth during a performance in Malabar on Saturday.

Currently on a national tour, Tridhara is an innovative solo Kathak dance performance that aims at transcending various music and dance identities to present art through a comprehensive idiom.

The inclusion of the mridangam, a primary rhythmic accompaniment in Carnatic music from the south of India, beautifully adorns the tabla and Kathak from the north.

Tridhara is a celebration of ShastriyaSangeet, an Indian classical music and dance, as a transcendental language connecting three artists from different backgrounds through spirit and their love of music.

“The impeccable synchrony between Revash and Morgan demonstrated how magnificently the male figure can indeed capture any art form. Thridhara was indeed a moment in time when a non-classically versed individual could learn some very basics with great understanding because of (a) simple and effective style of explaining, and a highly skilled classical maestro could get lost in the singing of your ghungroos (ankle bells),” said Shami Lilram, an arts patron.

After an immensely successful run in Durban and Johannesburg, Tridhara will makes its way to Port Elizabeth before heading to Cape Town.

This performance is in celebration of Diwali, as well as 30 years of existence for the Nirvana Performing Arts Circle.

The show will be staged at the KGM Hall in Mountview Drive, Malabar, on Saturday at 6pm. Tickets are R60 per person.
