THE New Brighton Football Association (NEBFA) broke a record after they won the SAFA Nelson Mandela Bay Boya Chetty Inter Local Football Associations finals.They beat Nobuhle Despatch Football Association (NODEFA) 4–2 on penalties in their game that ended in a goalless draw at Zwide Stadium on Sunday.The game was evenly balanced, as both LFAs played exciting football. The action was centred in the midfield, leaving the two goalkeepers with few saves. The game had to be decided on penalties as the contest ended in a goalless deadlock. NEBFA goalkeeper, Sive Gqezengele, was the hero of his side, as he saved two penalties while NEBFA penalty takers slotted in four penalties into the back of the net with NODEFA managing to bang in only two of their penalties.In the women’s finals, Port Elizabeth North Football Association (PENFA) defeated Port Elizabeth Football Association (PEFA) 5-4 on penalties after a full-time goalless draw. In the u/17 boys’ finals, NODEFA claimed a 1-0 win over MOFA while in the u/17 section, NEBFA lifted the trophy after they won the tournament, which was played on a round robin basis. Northern Areas Football Association (NAFA) finished second. There were also junior boys’ and girls’ u/13, u/15 and u/17 competitions. All the teams received new kit, while the winning teams went home with floating trophies and gold medals, with the runners-up getting silver medals. Some outstanding players and technical officials received trophies in the various individual awards.
