THE lives of 150 Elundini Primary School learners were changed for the better when they received three newly-built classrooms last week.

The school in Motherwell recently made headlines because learners were being taught under a tree on the school’s premises due to overcrowding of classrooms.

The Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality Executive Mayor, Mongameli Bobani, together with the Mark Headbush Foundation, unveiled and handed over the classrooms on Mandela Day.

The handover formed part of a joint initiative between the Mark Headbush Foundation and the mayoral office through the Mayoral Golf Day.

The proceeds of the golf day are used by the foundation to support organisations and entities from disadvantaged communities.

Bobani expressed his excitement about the work that had been done.

“On behalf of the only city named after Tata Madiba, we would like to commend the foundation for this sterling work.

“Nelson Mandela valued education immensely and understood that it is the perfect weapon that can be used to change the world for the better,” Bobani said.

The Mark Headbush Foundation was formed 13 years ago in the metro, focusing on education especially early childhood development.

Bobani added, “Through the Mayoral Golf Day, we are fully behind this programme and will continue to support this noble cause by the Mark Headbush Foundation.”
