CHANGE is in the air at KWIKSPAR Burt Drive and it seems to be agreeing with the staff and customers alike. The brother and sister pair, Christine and Robert Simpson, recently took over at the store upon their return after seven years abroad and they are planning great things for the future.“We both gained a lot of experience in London. Robert is incredibly talented at the financial aspects of the business, as well as computer systems and problem solving. He is very excited about promotions and ensuring we are as fully stocked as we can be on the specials,” Christine said.“I am a chef and baker by profession and have been working in hotels, bakeries and cookery schools like Leith’s School of Food and Wine and Jamie Oliver’s Cookery School. My passion is to teach people eager to learn about food and cooking, as well as serve people delicious food in as healthy a way as possible.”Thus far, both Christine and Robert have found running the business an exciting challenge. “It has been great to learn all aspects of Spar, from receiving to ordering, staff management and customer service,” Christine said. The Simpsons are in the process of expanding the store’s range of grab-and-go foods, as well as groceries. “We want to appeal to a larger audience. We believe that more variety and convenience foods will be the key to this little store’s success. “We remember seeing the store briefly a couple of years ago before the revamp and it really was in need of lots of love. The revamp last year was exactly what it needed and it really is a beautiful, spacious store with lots of potential. However, I don’t believe many people know that this facelift has happened and we haven’t grown our customer base as much as we hoped we would.”With KWIKSPAR Burt Drive celebrating its 20th birthday this year, loyal customers have been receiving gifts in store every weekend for the last few weeks and all they have had to do to stand a chance of winning is spend R50 or more. Gifts include a Weber, Salton oven and a Samsung tablet. “And we have more coming for the next three weekends. One of our winners has been shopping at Burt Drive for more than 20 years,” Christine said.According to her, one of the best things about the store is that Burt Drive has the loveliest staff. “Our customers love our deli ladies and cashiers and I regularly receive compliments on the service. We are en route home for many people and it’s a quick stop for hassle-free parking and shopping.”Customers are treated to boerewors rolls sold outside the store on weekends and sometime early next year a Bean Tree Coffee Shop might also add to the great atmosphere.“I really want people to see our store as a great mix of offerings for the whole family. Whether you are banting, vegan or love a boerewors roll, KWIKSPAR Burt Drive wants to be the place where you can come and get something for everyone. Being a chef with a brother who loves food, we are definitely the team you want on your side when doing your shopping,” Christine quipped.KWIKSPAR Burt Drive, located at 20 Burt Drive, Cotswold, is open seven days a week and on public holidays from 07:00 to 20:00.
