PORT Elizabeth – the nurses of our nation need you!

Make sure you lace up those takkies, put on your lycra and enter the second annual Exceptional Nurse Campaign Night Run, taking place this Saturday.

The second annual Exceptional Nurse Campaign Night Run will take place in Port Elizabeth at Pollok Beach on August 31 from 18:00.

In addition to being a great excuse to get out into the community and breathe in some fresh air, participants will also be honouring and supporting all the exceptional nurses around South Africa and raising much needed funds for bursaries so that more people can study to become exceptional nurses.

The 7km night route (to finish by 19:00) is symbolic of the 7-7 shifts the nurses work.

“The purpose of the night run is to raise awareness of the critical shortage of professional nursing posts in South Africa and to promote a culture of honour and gratitude towards all,” said Sister Teresa Basson, the organiser of this event.

“Nurses play an essential role in the medical profession and health care system. Nurses not only form the backbone, but also the beating heart of our healthcare system.”

Basson started the Exceptional Nurse Campaign (TEN) after seeing how desperate the situation in some hospitals had become.

All proceeds will be donated to the Exceptional Nurse Campaign Bursary Fund.

Entries are R100 per adult and R50 per child under the age of 12.
