NPO fundraiser to bring hope for local youth

THE Sisonke Community Forum, a local NPO that seeks to improve the social and economic challenges faced by impoverished community members, will be hosting a fundraiser on December 15.

“We’re a non-profit organisation. We address skills development, food security, community issues.

“We are also involved in unemployment, securing jobs for people and we engage with schools for the kids’ problems. All these things we do for no money,” said Earl Pillay of the Sisonke Community Forum.

The NPO is based in the Northern Areas, but focuses on the whole of Port Elizabeth.

They have created an open platform to discuss and identify issues affecting the lives of community members and strive to create opportunities to combat the challenges. Thus far the forum has provided sports and recreational activities for learners, started a Learnership Programme NQF4 for unemployed youth, partnered with institutions to assist youth in finding employment and trained counsellors to serve the community’s needs.

To keep the cause up and running and give the youth a better chance for a future, the forum will be hosting a family and community fundraiser on December 15.

More than 50 stalls will be selling food, toys, odds-and-ends, something for your sweet tooth and much more between 07:00 and 15:00.

From 20:00 a golden oldies event with DJ Winna will keep they crowd moving. Entry is R30. Throughout the day children can enjoy the jumping castles and other entertainment on offer.

There will also be a bingo tournament with great prizes to be won.

The Sisonke Community Forum fundraiser will take place at the Grootkloof Recreational Centre in Cannon Street, Hillside, on December 15. For more info contact Earl Pillay at 067 055 5369 or
