Ocean Racing series entries open

2016-08-17 06:00

WITH Spring just around the corner, registration for the 12th season of the aQuellé Ocean Racing Series has opened this week.

Africa’s largest family beach event Series is unique to Nelson Mandela Bay and hosts six simultaneous running events each race morning on PE’s premier beach, Hobie Beach, on mostly alternate Sunday mornings throughout Summer.

For the open water swimmers, triathletes, budding Ironmen, water polo players and swim enthusiasts wanting to stay fit this summer, the Series offers a choice of a 3km, 2km or 1km Ocean Swim.

For those preferring to stay dry, the Series includes a 5km Beach Run, 5km Beach Walk and a kids 1km beach run for children from 1 month through to 12 years.

All participants are required to secure a Series number for season 12 which runs from October 16, 2016, through to March 26, 2017, and will comprise 10 race mornings.

Registration is a once off process to secure a Series number and thereafter Series members just report to Hobie Beach on race days to select the event which they’d like to take part in.

Entry fees for Season 12 are R100 for the ocean events, R50 for the beach events and R40 for the kids run. A R30 late/manual entry fee will apply if not registering online.

Racing starts at 9am on race mornings and is followed by a kids’ prize giving at 10am and the adult prize giving immediately thereafter.

Winners medals are presented to the top 3 finishers in all events and the top finisher in selected age groups within these events. Great lucky draw prizes, including R1 500 cash for the adults and R500 cash for the kids, are available each race day.

Overall points are also allocated throughout the Series to determine the Series leaders and ultimately the Series champions at the end of the Season. Round 1 and Round 10 will be double points race days.

A pre-registration function will be hosted by News Cafe, Boardwalk, on Friday, October 14, between 5:30pm and 8pm.

A Series goody bag comprising a drawstring bag, t-shirt and swim/sports cap is available for purchase at just R100 when making online registration before round 1.

A premier membership package is offered for participants wanting to secure a 20% Series discount and the convenience of not having to queue each race day to enter the events. See website for further information – www.oceanracingseries.com.
