IN marking Heritage Day this year, Grey High School took note of all the Old Greys who have chosen to make the future of Grey High part of their lives and who form part of the school’s heritage.

In June this year, Old Greys made up 20% of Grey High’s full-time staff.

This is quite a substantial percentage – one of which the school is proud.

These Old Greys are:

  • Jarryd Cooke (Class of 2012): Head of technology, a history teacher, MIC of athletics and a hostel master.
  • Benjamin Ekron (Class of 2005): Has departed for a position abroad, but served as head rowing coach and a hostel master for many years.
  • Simon Sonderup (Class of 2000): The director of intramurals and media, head of history and MIC of air-rifle shooting, sight and sound, and Grey cooks.
  • Siyabonga Denga (Class of 2000): Deputy housemaster of the hostel, a history teacher and MIC of basketball.
  • Keagan Topper (Class of 2000): A school psychologist/counsellor.
  • Corbyn Dolley (Class of 2006): A Deputy housemaster, life orientation teacher, and a hockey and cricket coach.
  • Jason Bigara (Class of 2010): Has recently left for the UK, but was MIC of hockey and squash, and was the sports administrator for three years.
  • Richard Rautenbach (Class of 2016): A sports administrator.
  • Tyler Botha (Class of 2009): Head of maths literacy, a deputy housemaster and MIC of first aid, Grey Pulse and Grey Union.
  • Chris Townsin (Class of 1985): A deputy headmaster.
  • Chris Erasmus (Class of 1985 from Grey College, Bloemfontein): The rector of Grey High School.
  • Gavin Longe (Class of 1971): Served as bursar from 1991 to 2019.
  • Jonathan van Niekerk (Class of 2008): Deputy housemaster, MIC of rowing and Grey Matter, and school magazine editor.
