Opportunity for kids to unleash inner artist at holiday workshop

2017-07-12 06:02

THE Nelson Mandela Metropolitan Art Museum will be hosting art workshops for children during the July school holidays to celebrate Mandela month.

The exhibition themed ‘The Art Museum Is A Meeting Place’, pays tribute to the role of the Art Museum as a conduit for people, art and ideas to meet.

“The exhibition shows how artists use their talent to tell stories about the world around them. Join us, as we will be using the art on display and Mandela’s favourite stories as inspiration to make our unique art work. It will be a chance for you to experiment with a range of art materials,” Mthubanzi Mniki, Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality spokesperson, explained.

All materials will be provided and the programme will start at 9am on the dates below, ending at 12 noon. Children aged between 7 and 14 must pay R30 per day.

Participants are also required to bring along an apron or old clothes and their own packed lunch.

Booking is essential as only a limited number of children can be accommodated. For more info and to book a seat contact the Art Museum on 041 506 2000.

The programme will be as follows:

  • Today (children 7-11 years) – storytelling and soft pastel drawing
  • Tomorrow (children 12-15 years) – drawing and making stories
  • Friday (children 7-15 years) – painting with paper inclusions
