Parkrun celebrates third birthday this Saturday

THE popular Hobie Beach parkrun will be celebrating its third birthday this Saturday.

As part of the birthday celebrations runners are encouraged to bring along toys for the Eastern Province Child and Youth Care Centre and/or Long Life Milk for the Malabar Home for the Aged.

Parkrun is a free event for all - walkers and runners alike. It happens every Saturday at 8am at Hobie Beach’s Shark Rock Pier.

PE Hobie Beach parkrun started on August 10, and since then 9 144 runners, including participants from 178 athletics clubs, have completed 58 379 runs covering a total distance of 291 895 km, and there have been 11 143 new personal bests.

The female record is held by Liza Kingston who ran it in a time of 00:18:08 on September 12, 2015 (event number 107).

The male record is held by Amos Nyongo who ran it in a time of 00:14:59 on November 28, 2015 (event number 118).

The Age Grade course record is held by Margie Saunders who recorded a 98.06% run (19:47) on December 27, 2014 (event number 72).
