PE Comets Basketball Club held their first annual awards function at the Raymond Mhlaba Indoor Sports Complex Conference Hall on Sunday to honour the players for their excellent performances during the 2017 Nelson Mandela Bay Basketball Association League Season.

PE Comets president Sibongile Fondini stated that the primary objective of hosting the function was to motivate the players for their outstanding performances during the past season.

Fondini said, “I must say, the club executive committee decided to hold this function because it felt that outstanding players should be motivated and encouraged.

“Yes, all the players showed that they were good athletes, but there are most outstanding players. It was not easy to make the final selection, but in the end we came up with those players that showed consistency and character throughout the season.

“Next year we plan to make this function an event of big magnitude. I want to thank all the players for dedicating their time to the club.”

Fondini revealed that the PE Comets ladies’ team won the Nelson Mandela Bay Basketball Association League’s most prestigious trophy, as well as the Mayoral Cup.

Furthermore, Fondini said the PE Comets men’s team worked their socks off during this year’s season, though they did not collect any silverware.

Fondini said, “I want to take pride in our men’s team and our veterans’ team for their hard work.”
