’N GROEP karateka van ’n plaaslike dojo het onlangs deelgeneem aan die Suid-Afrikaans JKA Nasionale Kampioenskappe 2017 en weggestap met talle medaljes.

Meer as 3 000 karateka het deelgeneem aan die jaarlikse kompetisie oor ’n tydperk van twee dae.

Die geel tot rooi belde het meegeding op Vrydag, 19 Mei, en die bruin tot swart belde op Saterdag, 20 Mei.

Sewe karateka van die Dragon Suburbs Karate Dojo is ook gekies om deel te neem aan die kompetisie.

Vir die eerste keer in die Oos-Kaap het ’n student meegeding in die gestremde divisie. Johann Fourie (31) het dubbele goud gewen in die geel belt gestremde afdeling en dubbele brons vir die Gesamentlike Spesiale Ontwikkeling Afdeling van geel belt tot bruin belt.

Tussen Fourie en die ses ander studente van die Dragon Suburbs Karate Dojo het hulle weggestap met nog vier goue medaljes en een silwer medalje.

Die ander twee dubbele goud studente is Marli du Preez (16) en David Zhang (8), terwyl Reon Saaiman (9) trots wegstap met ’n silwer medalje.
