PORT Elizabeth resident, Estée Cockcroft, is preparing to launch her first novel titled The Eye in the Yellow Bow Tie.

Set during the Apartheid era, the story tells the journey of a young boy who lost his eye at the tender age of two and his struggle with bullies and self-acceptance.

His saving grace comes in the form of his blind eye – which starts to talk. It is the eye that helps him through the toughest of times.

The book is loosely based on a true story and embodies the perfect combination of fact and fiction.

“My dream was to write a novel about a one-eyed boy who beats the bullies and gets the girl,” said Cockcroft.

Cockcroft has a degree in Marketing Communications and a diploma in Creative Writing. She spent nine years working in the advertising industry before quitting to pursue her passion for writing.

She currently lives in Port Elizabeth with her husband and three daughters.

The Eye in the Yellow Bow Tie will be launched on September 8 at 6:30pm at The Athenaeum in Studio 1. All are welcome to attend.
