PORT Elizabeth-based singer-songwriter, Mike Palframan, who released his debut album titled “Out the Door” in February, was recently featured in the list of semi-finals for the International Songwriting Competition.

Palframan, who is also a corporate banker, has always had a silent passion for music and started writing songs only two years ago.

Before he starting writing in ernest, he would often play his favourite songs on his guitar and upload tributes on YouTube of his favourite musicians such as Bob Dylan.

It was only when a friend prompted him to make music of his own when he decided to embark on his journey in singing and songwriting.

The competition is aimed at providing an opportunity for both aspiring and established songwriters to have their songs heard in a professional international arena.

Out of over 16 000 entries, Palframan’s song titled “Those Times” made it through to the semi-finals in the International Songwriting Competition listed under the Americana genre.

“Featuring in the semi-finals alongside so many great and international artists has indeed been a recreational experience filled with humility.” said Palframan
