PE to host first ever Imibala Arts Fest

MUSIC events company Pachamama Project Productions will be hosting the first ever Imibala Arts Festival on April 1 at the Roof Garden Bar in Port Elizabeth.

Pachamama, a start-up live music events management company that aims to grow the local music industry, is working in conjunction with the Mandela Bay Development Agency (MBDA), Above and Beyond Sound, Afree Cinema, Bay FM and Kingfisher FM to make the festival a reality.

“It will be a multicultural music and arts festival celebrating our diversity through music and the arts,” said Tarynne Swarts, an Afro-world musician and the owner of Pachamama Project Productions.

The Imibala Art Festival is being held in honour of Freedom Month, which is the month of April, and will be headlined by local musicians such as SA Indies Music Week 2017 finalist Skank and the Roots, Ikati Esengxoweni, Tarynne Swarts Pachamama, as well as hip hop artist Vj Nakasa.

“In keeping with the theme of multiculturalism, we will also be selling foods from different countries,” said Swarts.

Running in conjunction with the festival will be the Imibala Fresh Talent Search, which allows up-and-coming singers and musicians a chance to submit their live performances on Facebook.

The public will then get a chance to vote for their favourite artist and the winners will perform at the festival and get an opportunity to be mentored by an established local musician/artist.

“Nelson Mandela Bay has a lot of unearthed talent that needs to be discovered and honed. With the festival we not only aim to give them a platform on which to perform, but also to give them the opportunity to be mentored,” said Swarts.

“The Imibala Fresh Talent Search will be part of our social responsibility. We feel that mentoring up-and-coming musicians in the field of entrepreneurship, marketing and branding will help them build their brand, learn about the industry and grow successfully in the music business through this programme.”

The Imibala Arts Festival 2017 will take place on April 1 at the Roof Garden Bar in Chapel Street at 5pm. Tickets at R100 are available at Computicket and will also be sold at the door for R150.
