ANRI Cilliers, Heide-Marie Lombard and Arinda Swart recently attended their twenty-year reunion at Pearson High School.

All three of them were part of the 1996 girls’ u/19 athletics team, which was a formidable group that dominated athletics in all disciplines at PE High Schools, EP High Schools and the Cradock Athletics Meetings.

They were top athletes in their chosen fields - Cilliers in the 1 500m and 3 000m; Swart in the High Jump, Long Jump and Hurdles; and Lombard in the High Jump.

But, this is not the biggest moment celebrated at the reunion. Wendy Rossouw, who was the Middle Distance Coach and Athletics Organiser when these three ladies attended Pearson High School, was also there.

Cilliers, Swart and Lombard were also highly talented in the classroom, as well as talented artists and they presented Rossouw with a very special gift in 1996 in which each sketched a cat representing their characters.

They knew that Rossouw had a special fondness for cats. The sketches were framed and, to this day, remain proudly in their place in Rossouw’s home.
