THE Black Panthers class, associated with the Phoenix Taekwon Do Club in Port Elizabeth, is preparing to host the Korean Martial Arts (KMA) Provincial Tournament this weekend.

Guiding them is their instructor, Sabum-Nim Gerd Hummel, a sixth degree black belt who has been practising Taekwon Do for more than 20 years.

Taekwon Do is a Korean form of martial arts that focuses on teaching the student self-defence, discipline, perseverance and respect for others.

The KMA Provincial Tournament is used to select the Eastern Cape Provincial Team that will represent the Eastern Cape in the upcoming KMA Nationals in Potchefstroom in August and then the SAITF Nationals in Cape Town in September.

The KMA Provincial Tournament will take place over two days. The event will kick off on June 10 in the new Fairview Community Sports Centre in Willow Road at 8am and continue on June 11.
