Plans afoot to rename Central streets and KwaDwesi Stadium

THE Nelson Mandela Bay Metropolitan Municipality (NMBMM) plans to rename the three streets close to the Opera House, as well as the KwaDwesi Stadium.

The three streets close to the Opera House are proposed to be renamed after the three South African performing arts legends, Athol Fugard, John Kani and Winston Ntshona.

In respect of the renaming of the three streets close to the Opera House, the arts and culture directorate of the Nelson Mandela Bay Metropolitan Municipality is inviting the residents of Ward 2 and 5 to a public meeting at City Hall today (March 9), at 6pm to give input towards the proposed renaming of the streets.

Any comments on the proposed name changes by interested or affected residents can be submitted to the Executive Director: Recreation and Culture via email:, or by Monday, March 14.

The KwaDwesi Stadium (Ward 36) is proposed to be renamed the Mawabo Dyubhele Stadium. – REPORTER
