A MULTIMILLION rand recreational hub in the heart of Schauderville is something the residents could only dream of previously.

Now, the Neave Street Multi-purpose and Recreational Park, which is a project of the Mandela Bay Development Agency (MBDA), is a reality which is taking shape in Neave Street.

Residents will have free access to the facilities, which will include an outdoor amphitheatre, five-a-side soccer field, an outdoor gym, a picnic area, jungle gym and climbing wall for the children.

This project, which has been planned since 2014, but has been on the backburner due to factors such as the lack of funding and changes in the design.

Various meetings were held with residents, who had the final say in what they wanted in the three-level building.

Hailing from Schauderville himself, the project resonates with Ward 10 councillor Andy Jordan.

“Growing up in Schauder, I never imagined that a park like this could exist in this area.

“This is huge for Schauderville and the feedback from the community has been very positive.

“Residents are very excited about this. It’s been an emotional time and I know this is going to be one of the most beautiful parks in the metro.”

The budget for the project is R8 million and forms part of the MBDA’S broader Schauderville/Korsten upgrade master plan for areas such as Highfield Road and Durban Road.
