LOCAL dancers can look forward to having internationally renowned dance choreographer Rudi Smit in their midst.

Smit, an international Jazz Funk/Hip Hop/Waack choreographer and dancer from Cape Town, will be presenting a workshop at the Natasha Tait Dance Studio in PE.

Smit has choreographed and assisted in choreography for the likes of Inna, Lloyd Cele, Loyiso Bala and Lakota Silva. He has most recently been one of the lead choreographers for the Universal Pictures production of Honey 3: Dare to Dance.

He has also been the assistant choreographer for Bring It On 6 and has choreographed international commercials for Pepsi and Adidas. Recently, he has choreographed a dance routine to Meghan Trainor’s song Me Too which went viral on YouTube and was praised by the singer herself.

Natasha Tait, who is organising the workshop, said she would love the dancers of PE to have the opportunity to attend a class with Smit.

Tait has recently relocated to PE after 13 years of dancing professionally both locally and internationally. She has performed at several South African casinos and theatres such as Carnival City, Sibaya Casino, The Playhouse Theatre Company and the Johannesburg Civic Theatre among others.

Tait teaches from several venues in and around PE in areas such as Charlo, Springfield and Walmer.

“I aim to provide Port Elizabeth’s Arts, Culture and Entertainment with similar opportunities and experiences that I have gained as a professional dancer,” Natasha Tait said.

The Rudi Smit Dance Workshop is taking place at the Andrew Rabie High School on Friday, May 26 from 6pm to 7:30pm (Advanced/Intermediate) and on Saturday from 10am to 11:30am (Beginners/Intermediate) and 1:30pm to 3pm (all welcome).

The event is open to those 10 years and older. Ticket prices range from R170 to R400.

Dancers need to book before May 12.
