THE South African Police Service (SAPS) is offering a reward to any person who provides information that will lead to the successful arrest of the suspects involved in the murders of two police officers who were killed in August and December 2017.According to police reports, the first incident took place on Thursday, August 10, 2017, at about 20:00.“Off duty Sergeant, Linda Wilson Mzuku from SAPS Bethelsdorp, was fatally shot at his home in Wells Estate by an unknown person. It is alleged that the suspect was seen fleeing the house and was picked up in the street behind the house by a white car,” said Colonel Priscilla Naidu in statement. Sergeant Mzuku’s state-issued Z88 pistol was also taken. The second incident took place on Thursday, December 21, 2017 at about 23:15, when two on duty police officers were shot at by suspects after they responded to a panic alarm at a business premises in Paterson Road in North End. “As they were waiting at the gate of the premises, they were attacked by two unknown persons and several shots were fired at the police officers,” said Naidu.Constable Nomvuybeko Mjandana succumbed to her injuries at the scene while her colleague was wounded. Their service pistols were both taken.Naidu said several attempts to gather information on these suspects were unsuccessful and the SAPS was now offering a reward. “Police are calling on the communities at all levels to stand together and expose these ruthless police killers. “The SAPS is mandated to serve and protect all the inhabitants in this country and they should be able to do so without any fear,” said Naidu.Anyone with information can contact the investigating officer, Dectective/Captain Tembinkosi Zanto, on 071 225 7461 or the Crime stop number on 0860 010 111.
