EXCITING clashes and nail-biting penalty shoot-outs provided great entertainment in the Nedbank Cup at the weekend, featuring the best teams from the four streams of the ABC Motsepe League.

The semi-final games that were played at Motherwell NU 2 Stadium were humdingers.

Lion City defeated the newcomers PE Stars 2-0, while Highbury overcame SUBS 4-3 on penalties after the 1-1 full-time score.

In the finals, Lion City earned their sweet revenge when they eliminated Highbury 1-0.

City Lads advanced to finals after they handed a 2-0 defeat to Bizana Pondo Chiefs at Mount Ayliff Stadium, while Mthatha City edged out Spears 1-0 in their tough game.

To the dismay of the supporters, Mthatha City embarrassed City Lads 4-0 in the finals.

Eastern Cape Bees devastated their arch-rivals Tornado 2-1 in their semi-final match, while the rookies Sibanye FC succumbed 2-0 to FC Buffalo in their semi-final match that was played at North End Stadium in East London.

EC Bees injected their venom into Buffalo to win 2-0 in the finals.

It was clear that Try Again FC would return to the next Nedbank Cup as Butterworth FC thumped them 3-0 in the semi-final that was played at the Walter Sisulu University Ibika Campus in Butterworth.

Matta Milan defeated Future Tigers 4-2 on penalties following their goalless full-time score during their semi-final.

Matta Milan beat Butterworth 4-2 in a penalty shoot-out in the final after the teams had drawn 1-1.
