SASSA office relocation delayed

2017-11-29 06:00

THE South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) recently announced its intention to relocate the Walmer local office, but the move has since been delayed.

The office, which is currently located in the Trustbank Building in Govan Mbeki Avenue, was set to move to the corner of Community Street and Smallman Street in Walmer on December 1, but SASSA hit a snag with the building plans, forcing them to reschedule.

According to Sandy Godlwana, senior manager of communication and marketing for SASSA Eastern Cape, they were under the impression that the building plans for the new office had been approved until they recently received a notice from the Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality stating that they had not been approved.

“We are currently in discussions with the landlord and the municipality to sort this matter out. As far as we know, the building plans were approved, hence the landlord was able to start with the construction of the building.

“There are a few things that need to be resolved before we can move into the new office,” Godlwana said.

“For this reason, we have removed all notices regarding the move until this matter is resolved. The various stakeholders are also being informed about the delay in our move.”
