ZWIDE community sports club, Shooting Stars, lifted the Heroes’ Cup Easter Soccer Cup Tournament trophy high after humiliating the tough Shining Stars FC 5-0 during the finals which took place at Zwide Stadium last Monday.

The tournament was the initiative of Zwide Pirates FC’s Thembinkosi Josopu, who decided to host it for teams from the Veeplaas, Zwide and Soweto townships.

Josopu revealed that one could often observe the youth doing nothing in these areas, roaming the streets and indulging in substance abuse, especially during the Easter holiday.

Shooting Stars had been dominant in their semi-final, handing Sophakama FC a 5-1 defeat.

Shining Stars played to a 1-1 draw against Major Chiefs, but won 3-2 on penalties.

Shooting Stars were ruthless in the finals when they took Shining Stars to the cleaners with a 5-0 demolition.

Shooting Stars went home with R10 000, a trophy and gold medals, while Shining Stars got R3 500 and silver medals. The semi-finalists Chiefs and Sophakama received R1 000 each.

The tournament, according to Josopu, was a resounding success.

Josopu commended the sponsor, Marina Sea Salt, for their tremendous contribution and thanked the clubs, match officials and supporters for their role during the tournament.
