AUDITIONS for the 2019 edition of Nelson Mandela Bay’s top family song, comedy and dance show, the 29th annual Woodlands Dairy Showtime Awards young talent development revue, will take place in the Charlo Primary School Hall on Saturday and Sunday, July 28 and 29.

Singers and actors will by vying for a spot in this year’s show, Those Were The Days, on Saturday from 14:30 and will be joined by specialist dancers when they return on Sunday for the movement and dance tryouts.

Rehearsals will then start in early October.

The team behind the production, led by executive producer Bob Eveleigh, will be seeking a fully multicultural core cast of 12 performers between the ages of 14 (turning 15 before January 27) and 22, with as many all-rounders as possible included, plus a dance troupe of six girls, who will also be required to sing in ensemble numbers. They will be supported by several guest stars and a group of 10 learners from Charlo Primary School.

The musical score and comedy will salute Broadway and Hollywood during the 1960s.

Among the hits to be saluted will be Bye Bye Birdie, Carnival, Mary Poppins and The Sound of Music.

For the auditions, singers should particularly acquaint themselves with the Broadway and Hollywood songs of the decade.

They will all also be taught one of the 2019 revue’s songs at the tryouts.

Those Were The Days will be stagedin the Little Theatre from January 27 to February 2 next year.

The formal junior awards ceremonies will take place on January 23 (high and primary school productions), followed by the main awards on February 1.
