‘Snelbusdiens loop in April’

DIE Nelson Mandelabaai-metro se snelbusdiens gaan in April aanstaande jaar operasioneel wees, het die burgemeesterskomiteelid vir paaie en vervoer, Rano Kayser, Donderdag gesê.

“Ons gaan die busdiens in fases begin instel, as regering gaan ons niks aanpak wat buite ons vermoëns is nie. Ons is vasberade om nie die foute van die vorige regering te herhaal nie.”

Hy het bygevoeg dat die enigste aanvanklike roete in die huidige boekjaar dié een gaan wees wat vanaf Cleary Park na die Port Elizabeth-middestad en na die Nelson Mandela-Universiteit (NMU) sal loop.

“Om die IPTS (geïntegreerde openbare vervoerstelsel) in Oktober – Vervoermaand – te laat loop, is nie prakties nie. Ons het in die 2016-’17-boekjaar nie geld hiervoor van die nasionale tesourie ontvang nie en die munisipaliteit is nie bereid om van sy eie geld vir die IPTS te gebruik nie.

Intussen is wel aansoek vir bykomende finansiering by die nasionale tesourie gedoen.

“Ek is positief dat ons dit gaan kry, omdat ons motivering daarvoor baie goed was,” meen Kayser.

Inwoners se betrokkenheid by die ontwikkeling van die snelbusdiensstelsel is baie belangrik, het Kayser beklemtoon.

“Die IPTS gaan terug na die mense. Ons is besig om ’n seminaar vir belanghebbendes te reël om hul insette oor die busdiens te kry,” het hy bygevoeg.

Die seminaar word in Oktober gehou.
