SAFA Nelson Mandela Bay Masters League top 8 winners, Sparks, wrecked the nerves of the supporters of the log leaders, Eleven Attackers, after they held them to a goalless draw at the Motherwell NU 6 Grounds on Sunday.

Sparks kept applying pressure on the home side, but their efforts went wide of the target.

Sparks’ midfielder, Khaya Quntu, delivered three long range shots that went wide.

It seemed as if Attackers were on the edge because Sparks’ forwards kept the home side’s defenders busy. The first half ended in a stalemate.

In the second half Bulelani Kwayiyo pulled the trigger, but Attackers’ goalie parried the midfielder’s efforts over the crossbar.

Sparks’ left winger, Thando Kana, sent through a few perfect crosses, but Attackers’ defender, Sizwe Hani, was good enough to intercept them. The golden opportunity finally came to Attackers’ striker, Zola Chacklass Zuzile, but he miscued the ball which went wide with Sparks’ goalkeeper well beaten.

In another fierce battle, Villagers defeated Soweto Masters 1-0. The Villagers’ goal was scored by Andile Nangu in the second half.

Soweto Masters’ goalkeeper Disco Quntu made some brilliant saves. Soweto Masters could have equalised, but Andile Khaole’s tame shot was saved by Villagers’ goalie, Lundi Mahobe, in a one-on-one situation.

AmaUnits hammered Zwide Masters 7-0 in a one-sided game. Luzuko Dzuyi Hambaze scored four goals, Vuyani Jomo Mtati a brace and Mphumezi Runeli came up with an odd goal.

Finally, VW Masters walloped Winners 4-0, while Young Pirates overcame New Brighton 1-0 in a close match. – SELBY MADIKANE
