SHOWVILLAGE’S u/15 team was crowned the Showvillage United Brothers June 16 Annual Youth Tournament champions, after they had defeated Channel Porto FC 2-0 in the finals, which took place at Motherwell NU 8 Grounds on Saturday.

The tournament started at Nelson Mandela Freedom Peace Park on June 9. The hosts, who are affectionately called Stallions by their supporters, advanced to the finals after they overcame their arch-rivals, Lion City FC, 2-1 in the semi-finals.

Channel Porto FC embarrassed NU 7 Citizens FC 4-1 during the last semi-finals to take the other spot in the finals.

The teams’ loyal fans saw the finals produce fireworks when Stallions faced off against Porto. The visitors kept on applying immense pressure on Showvillage.

The home side was awarded a penalty that was scored by their skipper, Aphelele Marashula, in the 18th minute.

When the full-time whistle blew, Showvillage increased their lead to 2-0 following a spectacular goal that was scored by Aphiwe Nelani.

Porto midfielder Livenkosi Menzi was the outstanding player during the finals.

In the end, Showvillage lifted the trophy high as they were crowned the champions.

They went home with 20 gold medals as well, while Porto had to settle for 20 silver medals.
