A SUSPECT is in police custody after he allegedly broke into a parked vehicle in West End, Port Elizabeth recently. He was arrested thanks to the work of a local armed response officer.
“Officer Wyatt Kluit was dispatched to a property in Rensburg Street at around 4:28am on January 29 to investigate an alarm signal we had received. On his arrival, the client told him that a suspect had broken into his car that was parked in the driveway and had stolen his daughter’s pink handbag which was inside the car,” said Ryan Britz, ADT Security’s branch manager in Port Elizabeth.
The client was able to give officer Kluit a description of the alleged suspect.
“What impresses me most about our officer’s behaviour was how he then proactively decided to patrol the area to see if he could locate the suspect. A few minutes later, he noticed a man matching the description he was given,” said Britz.
When officer Kluit approached the suspect he noticed that the man was armed with a baseball bat. He immediately ordered the man to surrender the bat and lie down on the ground, before searching him. The pink handbag was found in his possession.
The police were called to the scene and the suspect was taken into custody.
“I am proud of officer Kluit’s bravery and for the way in which he handled the manner,” concluded Britz.
