Thanks to Uncedo for helping

2019-02-13 06:00

I WOULD like to thank Mr (Diki) Zamani, chairperson Uncedo Taxi Association in Port Elizabeth, for coming to the aid of Notule Mabandla, a pensioner from Qurana, Tsolo, who was stuck in Port Elizabeth with nowhere to stay.

When Mrs Mabandla arrived unannounced at a house in Zwide, which she thought belonged to relatives, she found the house locked with no relatives there.

She had travelled from Tsolo and had no other relatives in Port Elizabeth.

Sympathetic neighbours took the frail, elderly Mrs Mabandla to the KwaZakhele Police Station, who in turn took her to the casualty ward at Dora Nginza Hospital.

She was referred to me, as the principal medical social worker of the hospital. As she is not our patient and had nowhere to stay in Port Elizabeth, I appealed to the Uncedo Taxi Association to provide free travel for her back to Tsolo. She had come by taxi from Tsolo, and she had told me that she did not have money to pay for a trip back home.

She left by taxi on Saturday morning, January 19 and arrived safely home.

I would like to thank the Uncedo Taxi Association for their kindness.

Ms Pamela Rubushe

Principal Medical Social worker: Dora Nginza Hospital
