FORMER Lion City FC and Tornado FC striker Siyabonga Nontshinga guided his side to a well-deserved 2-0 victory in their exciting ABC Motsepe League clash against Swartkops Valley United Brothers (SUBS) at the Motherwell NU 2 Stadium on Friday evening.

SUBS came to the game with guns blazing and were expected to win, but it was not meant to be. Sikhumbuzo Mshweshwe, Bathandwa Zondani, Luthando Ngemntu, Athenkosi Mpati and Vuyisani Masumpa were the SUBS players that promised to come up with goals.

The Mdantsane side kept things very tight at the back. Tornado FC’s goalkeeper saved thunderous shots delivered by SUBS strikers. The first half ended in a stalemate.

In the second half, Tornado FC came up strongly to SUBS. Nontshinga sent a shot that beat SUBS’ goalkeeper, Sivuyile Foffy Dumse, to give his side a 1-0 lead.

However, Tornado FC maintained their lead for a long time while SUBS did not stop attacking Tornado FC.

Nontshinga tried for a goal, but Foffy Dumse was equal to the task as he collected the striker’s shot. Tornado FC sealed the game after Nontshinga headed home Tornado’s second goal in the dying moments of the game.

Lion City were set to play against EC Bees FC at Motherwell NU 2 Stadium, but the Bisho side were engaged in a Nedbank Cup provincial elimination final at Jeffreys Bay.

Bees, who won the Nedbank Cup Provincial elimination finals for the second time, drubbed Wits FC 4-1. Now, Bees are the only Eastern Cape side to have defended their Nedbank Cup title three times at provincial level. City will face Bees on December 19.
