THE Zakhele Football Association’s (ZAFA) newly inaugurated Lecira Easter Tournament saw United Comrades and BUBS FC hoist their trophies high after winning their respective leagues at Wolfson Stadium on Easter Monday.

In the First Division semi-finals, BUBS FC overcame Power Lads 2-1, while City All Stars defeated Everton FC 2-1. All Stars failed to convert numerous opportunities into goals, but Sakhikhaya Hliso headed home the winning goal that saw BUBS FC claim the First Division Trophy in their finals.

In the Premier League semi-finals, Golden Brothers beat Leeds United 5-4 on penalties after the goalless, full-time draw and United Comrades earned a close 3-2 win over Young Professionals.

In the finals, the long-awaited second-half goal came courtesy of Masixole Nobomvu who helped United Comrades claim the hard-fought 1-0 victory from the gutsy Golden Brothers.

ZAFA president Vuyani Jomo Mtati said, “This tournament has kept the youth in sport and Lecira has lifted up the standard of the community.”

Special awards were awarded as follows:

  • First Division: Mthuthuzeli Plaatjie from BUBS FC (goalkeeper of the tournament), Phumlani Jako of BUBS FC (player of the tournament) and Sicelo Dyali of Power Lads FC (top goal scorer of the tournament).
  • Premier: Lungisa Dlula of Golden Brothers (goalkeeper of the tournament), Andile Dada of United Comrades (player of the tournament) and Andile Platana of United Comrades (Top Goal Scorer).
