Uviwe to host youth celebrations

2019-06-26 06:02

AS part of celebrating the youth in the community, Uviwe Child and Youth Services is hosting a youth celebration in Schauderville on Saturday, June 29, with a carnival theme.

On Saturday, the festivities start at 08:30, with a march from the Jarman Hall to Paterson High School’s rugby field, where the rest of the activities will take place. The celebration will be open for all to attend and entrance is free.

Uviwe is a non-profit child protection organisation, running several programmes within the northern areas of Port Elizabeth.

These programmes are aimed at raising awareness at schools in the community, as well as national awareness on important dates which are observed in South Africa.

Kelsey Jooste, Uviwe awareness and development co-ordinator, said that the event would be the first of its kind for the Schauderville community.

“The event is aimed at creating a sense of togetherness in a community rife with violence and unrest, while highlighting local confidence and pride in the strengths and abilities of the Schauderville community itself.”

The event will feature a variety of activities for the youth, such as live entertainment with local artists DJ Spectrum, Mariloe Booysen, Loufie, Rudiments and Muzika.

“The day will further feature activities including sports, mini games, food stalls, and a talent show for the youth to showcase to their range of talents to the community,” Jooste said.

“Uviwe also aims at providing the community with an entrepreneurial opportunity by encouraging participation in the event and the sale of community produced goods during the event,” Jooste said. For more info contact Kelsey Jooste from Uviwe via programme4@ uviwe.co.za or call 041 453 0441/2/5.
