THE DB Fine Chemicals/Caledonian FC national veterans tournament will be back in Port Elizabeth again this weekend for its 14th annual instalment on Friday and Saturday.

The Caledonian Football Club, affectionately known as Callies, will once again host the event at their fields in Sunridge Park.

Teams from Johannesburg, Cape Town, East London and Port Elizabeth will be vying for R10 000 in prize money.

Returning teams Bothasig and Vasco da Gama from Cape Town will be joined for the first time by Park United, Fairview Rovers and Stephanians from Ottery.

Also returning will be PE All Stars. This team is made up of players who now live in various parts of the country, but who get together once a year to take part in this tournament.

Some of the teams also feature ex-professional players in their ranks, so, the standard of football is very high. In conjunction with the tournament, Callies will also hold a reunion evening tomorrow, from 19:00, to celebrate Callies’ 120th anniversary. Ex-players from all the old EPFA and PEFA clubs are welcome to join.

On Saturday, after the prize-giving, the Champions League final between Liverpool and Real Madrid will be screened live on the big screen.

The tournament will kick off on Friday at 16:40 with a match between Rangers FC and Callies on the A-field and another match between Park United and PE All Stars on the B-field.

Saturday’s matches will start at 08:40 when Vasco Da Gama and Fairview Rovers will face off on the A-field and Bothasig 2 and Acemates on the B-field.

Entry to the grounds and the clubhouse is free from 16:00 on Friday and 09:00 on Saturday. Refreshments will be sold and music will be played throughout the weekend.
