SUBTLE, old-school gangsterism meets comedy and music in what promises to be one of Victoria Park High School’s most refreshing and interactive theatre experiences yet this month.

Following the school’s classical offering of Camelot in 2017, this year they will revive 1920 gangsterism from the dark streets of New York with comedy musical, Bugsy Malone, from May 7 to 11.

Based on the 1976 comedy musical directed and written by Alan Parker, the story sees two “gangs” squaring off in a casually gruesome rivalry which ironically sparks humour over violence. The 50-strong cast and band will stay true to the original format and setting of the film, something which many adaptations have missed.

According to show director, Mariette van der Walt, traditional theatre seating will be complemented by 10-seater round tables, which will be much closer to the stage, creating a more intimate experience for the audience.

Bugsy Malone will be performed at VP’s David Blake Hall from May 7 to 11 at 19:00 each night.

Tickets for normal seats are R55 each while table tickets are R85.

Bookings can be made online at or with Victoria Park High School at 041 508 6400.
