MOTHERWELL-BASED ladies’ football side, Volcano FC, handed a 3-1 defeat to Zwide All Stars during their SAFA Nelson Mandela Bay Women’s Regional League game at Motherwell NU 9 Stadium on Sunday.

The hosts were quick to register their opening goal, courtesy of their striker Qhama Mali in the fifth minute.

The visiting side pushed for their opening goal but Volcano skipper, Babalwa Peter, was outstanding in defence.

Eventually the hard work of All Stars paid dividends and their striker, Lerato Mpuntshe, banged in her side’s equalising goal in the 25th minute.

It was just a few minutes later when the supporters of All Stars saw their side trailing by 2-1 after Mali came up with Volcano’s second goal in the 27th minute.

Volcano’s hard-working star player, Kamvelihle Speelman, created many goal-scoring opportunities, but they went begging. Volcano put the final nail in the All Stars’ coffin when Speelman scored a world class goal in the 55th minute.

In another match at the weekend, KUBS snatched an easy away 4-0 victory from Motherwell side, Fire Stars, in their game at Motherwell NU 9 Stadium on Saturday.

Stars did not impress their home supporters as they appeared to be jittery at the back.

Aviwe Mgodi came up with a brace while Nomzamo Tukani and Ntombozuko Mcopele registered a goal apiece.
