MOTHERWELL-BASED side Volcano Ladies FC accumulated three valuable league points at the weekend in their bid to win the SAFA Nelson Mandela Bay Women’s Regional League title.

This came after they beat Golden Stars 2-0 in their clash at Motherwell NU 9 Stadium on Sunday. Volcano exerted immense pressure on Stars, who defended as a unit.

The hosts kept on taking the game to the visitors.

A long-awaited goal was finally scored by Volcano’s goal poacher, Kamvelihle Speelman, in the 21st minute.

Volcano kept pushing for a second goal but the visitors’ goalkeeper stood her ground.

The Motherwell lasses missed numerous goal-scoring opportunities as their sure-footed striker Speelman failed to convert their chances into goals.

Volcano’s skipper, Babalwa Peter, then unleashed a powerful shot that was spilled by Stars’ goalkeeper.

Busisiwe Tancu pounced on the rebound to knock in a goal in the 55th minute and complete the scoring.
