MOTHERWELL side Volcano Ladies FC have started with their early training in preparation for the Safa Nelson Mandela Bay Women’s Regional League 2018 season.

According to chairperson and head coach Mzuvukile Richard Khesi, the aim of preparing their side so early is to make sure that they win the promotional play-offs.

Volcano will be playing in the Safa NMB Women’s Regional League Stream B.

Khesi said that his players know that they have to deliver this season.

”There were lots of challenges last season. The major challenge was that the club did not have transportation for the players when they played away games. Despite being unemployed, I am undeterred from realising the goals of the club. I had to dig deep into my pocket and Sindi Mkhize rendered more assistance to the club,” he added.

“There were times that I wanted to throw in the towel, but Mkhize gave me moral support. The club used temporary players’ cards because we did not have the funds to pay for the season cards.”

Khesi commended his players for heeding the club’s call.

“Our players have come in large numbers to practices since early new year. They are serious because they know their mandate.

“Last season was aimed at exposing the club to the top flight league.

“We are so fortunate because the government provided the community of Motherwell NU 9 with outdoor gym facilities that the club makes use of.

“I would like to praise my players for their outstanding performance during the past regional league season.

“The club finished fourth on the league table after winning five games, losing two and drawing two.

“I also want to thank the local doctor who paid an affiliation fee for the club. This year we are joined by Luzuko Ngqosha as assistant coach,” said Khesi.

He said that the Ward 57 councillor said he would do his best to assist Volcano, following discussions last year.

Anyone willing to assist the club can contact Mzuvukile Richard Khesi on 078 087 7173.
